Legion benefit Casino Night Saturday, KC Hall

American Legion Carlyle Post 358 and Knights of Columbus Post 7014 will host a Casino Night Saturday at the KC Hall.

Doors open at 6 p.m., games begin at 7 and end at 11 with the prize auction.

Grand prize is $2,500 and there will be 25 prizes of $100.

Cost is $100 per player $25 for non-players. No one under age 21 will be admitted.

Pre-sale tickets are still available and limited tickets will be available at the door.

Commissioners okay election agreements

Milam County commissioners, meeting in regular session on Tuesday approved election agreements with several entities for upcoming ballots.

The county okayed vote counts for Rockdale’s special east ward city election on Dec. 21.

Denise Wallace and Leroy Phillips are vying for the post vacated by Melody Dawson.

Early voting for that election begins on Dec. 9.

Commissioners also approved an agreement with the county Republican and Democratic parties to count votes from March 4 primaries and the May 27 runoff, if needed.

In other business, commissioners okayed abandonment of County Road 328 and heard County Clerk Barbara Vansa report on upgrading land records in her office.

Community Outreach meal set for Nov. 23rd

Rockdale’s annual Community Thanksgiving Outreach luncheon is set for 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church.

The free Thanksgiving meal, with all the trimmings, will be provided to eat in, take out or will be delivered to ill, shut-ins and families without transportation.

First Christian plans Thanksgiving luncheon

First Christian Church will again host its annual free Thanksgiving luncheon, according to John Elbert Fischer, spokesman.

“ The meal will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, located at the corner of Bell and Scarbrough,” he said.

“Everyone is invited,” Fischer said. “This allows those without the means, or a family, to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with neighbors and friends.”

Fischer said delivery to shut-ins is also available if reservations are called in by 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 446-5090.

Annual Thanksgiving service at Forest Grove

Rockdale’s annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Forest Grove Christian Church.

Rev. Adam Straznicky of St. John’s United Methodist will deliver the message. Music will be a combined community choir directed by JoAnn Bradford of Rising Star Baptist Church. All persons of all denominations are invited to attend.

Rockdale ISD trustees will meet on Monday

School trustees of the Rockdale ISD will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Central Administration Building, according to Donald Denbow, interim superintendent.

Trustees will discuss annual financial audits and consider changing the regular monthly school board meeting day and time.

Thorndale council sets hearing, regular session

Thorndale city council members have scheduled a public hearing and regular session for Wednesday afternoon Nov. 13, according to City Secretary Denise Melde.

The 5:15 p.m. public hearing is to gather public input on a change to Thorndale’s manufactured homes ordinance.

Agenda items for the 5:30 p.m. regular session include voting on the manufactured home ordinance and discussing future annexation plans.

MDD directors set Thursday meeting

The Rockdale Municipal Development District ( MDD) will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the MDD offices.

Agenda items include “any necessary action” on services provided by the now-fired Orasi firm and updates on numerous projects undertaken by the MDD.

Milano council to hear safe route presentation

MILANO—City council members in Milano are set to hear a presentation from Gandolf Burris on safe routes to school at their regular meeting on Monday night.

Also on the agenda are an update on the Milano police department from Chief Colin Owen, finalize holiday plans with the school and city and consider a dog ordinance.

The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Milano Civic Center.

RMH Auxiliary yule luncheon tickets on sale

Tickets for the annual Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s Christmas luncheon go on sale Thursday, according to president Jody Manning.

Tickets are $8 each and this year’s menu will include barbecue. They can be purchased at the RMH front desk.

This year’s luncheon will be held on Friday, Dec. 13 at St. John’s United Methodist Church fellowship hall (corner of Hillcrest and Summit) in Rockdale.

HOP passengers can use food for fare this week

Passengers of the HOP bus can substitute a non-perishable food item in lieu of a contribution of local fare through Nov. 21. Food items will be taken to a Food for Families event on Nov. 22.
