Four RJH students make all-region bands
“ Our students represented Rockdale Junior High and our community very well as we qualified four students to the ATSSB All-Region Bands,” RISD director of bands Adrian Acevedo announced.
Those qualifying were:
• Damarcus Caruther, eighth grade, first chair flute, Symphonic Band (Top Band). This makes Caruther the ranked flute player in Rockdale’s band region.
• Joshua Davenport, seventh grade, eighth chair French horn, Symphonic Band.
• Emma Mireles, eighth grade, third chair tenor saxophone, Concert Band.
• Alfredo Palacios, eighth grade, fourth chair clarinet, Concert Band.
These students will participate in the ATSSB MS Region 26/18 Band Clinic/Concert the weekend of Dec. 6-7 at Bastrop High School.
“They will have the opportunity to rehearse with and meet many students from our region and share a wonderful musical experience with them and the talented clinicians who will work with them,” Acevedo said.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 and is open to the public.
“Congratulations to these students and their director, Kevin Stehr,” Acevedo said.
ALL STATE JAZZ—In other news, earlier this year RHS Big Blue Band member Geritt Davenport qualified for the ATSSB High School All-Region Jazz Band. He also qualified to audition for the ATSSB All-State Jazz Band.
On Saturday, Acevedo learned that the sophomore placed 10th.
“Only five students were selected for the trumpet section of the ATSSB All-State Jazz Band, but 10th place out of 44 students is a great accomplishment and we are all very proud of Geritt for preparing for these auditions and representing our school and community with pride,” Acevedo said.
The ATSSB All-Region 26/18 Jazz Band Clinic/Concert will take place on Jan. 17-18 on the campus of Texas State University. The concert will take place at 7 p.m. that Saturday in conjunction with the ATSSB HS All-Region Band Clinic/Concert.
