Annual ‘Lord’s Acre’ event ahead Sunday
St John’s United Methodist Church will hold its annual “Lord’s Acre” fund- raiser Sunday at the church fellowship hall, Gaye Bland, chair, has announced.
Barbecue plates, dine-in or to-go, will be served beginning at 12-noon immediately after morning worship. The brisket-and-sausage plates with all the trimmings are priced at $9. Methodist Men are selling the tickets and they will also be available at the doors Sunday.
The Lord’s Acre live auction will begin at 12:30 p.m., featuring a variety of arts and crafts suitable for Christmas giving, Bland said. County Commission John Fisher will again serve as the volunteer auctioneer. A silent auction will also be held beginning at noon.
Also on sale will be a variety of “meals-in-a-minute,” another popular feature of Lord’s Acre.
Funds raised at the annual event are used by St. John’s UMC for capital improvements.
Springfield Baptist homecoming Sunday
Springfield Baptist Church will hold its 141st annual homecoming and church anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, 232 East Third Avenue in Rockdale, Rev. S.L. Ross Sr., pastor, has announced.
Guest speaker will be Rev. Maurice Green, pastor of Lily of the Valley Pentecostal Church in Bryan. A homecoming address will be given by Rhonda Hopkins, minister, of Beaumont. Felecia Wesley of Round Rock will give the memorial and Brenda Hall of San Antonio will recognize the homecomers.
Hazel Santee of Hemstead will serve as mistress of ceremonies, Sheniqua Russell will give the welcome, and the Springfield choirs will present two selections.
The public is invited, Rev. Ross said.
Forest Grove youth to honor police, EMS
The youth of Forest Grove Christian Church will host their fourth annual “Heroes Dinner—A Night of Thanks and Giving Back” for local fire, police and EMS personnel of Rockdale, Lexington, Black Jack and Tanglewood.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25 and feature a free meal for all of these law enforcement and emergency personnel, according to Jennifer Walch, spokesperson.
“It’s our big service project for the year—a free spaghetti supper and free door prize drawings for these local heroes that put their lives on the line for our community,” Walch said. “We want to be sure all our heroes know they are invited to attend.”

Christmas Bazaar set Saturday, December 7
The Ladies Society of St Joseph’s Catholic Church will hold their annual Christmas Bazaar beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in the church’s educational building on San Gabriel Street in Rockdale.
The Ladies are selling raffle tickets for $1 each after all masses and at The Rockdale Reporter. Prizes include a 50-inch TV, gift cards and a crocheted afghan.
The bazaar will conclude at 1:30 p.m. with the raffle drawing and door prizes. The bazaar will offer baked good, arts and crafts and a silent auction.
The kitchen will have chicken stew, menudo and sandwiches for sale with free coffee for visitors while they are shopping the bazaar.
Mini revival Nov. 20-22 at New Hope Baptist
Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 20-22, New Hope Baptist Church, 327 East 3rd Street in Rockdale, will hold a mini-revival at 7 p.m. Pastor T. C. Collins of Canaan Baptist Church in Lufkin will bring the message nightly.
Women’s prayer breakfast Saturday at Allen Chapel
All women of the community are invited to Allen Chapel AME Church’s first annual Woman’s Prayer Breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. The church is located at 216 East Third Street in Rockdale.
Breakfast theme will be “Giving Thanks to God for Another Day’s Journey.” Speaker will be Myrtle Johnson from Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of Cameron.
Breakfast donation is $10.
‘Christmas Child’ drive under way at First Baptist
First Baptist Church in Rockdale is again sponsoring a Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child gift drive.
“A shoe box is filled with small gifts for a child by you and the box will go to an Operation Christmas Child processing center and then sent to children around the world,” said Barbara Clark, publicist. “We have information kits on how to fill the shoe boxes and extra shoe boxes. If an organization, classroom, club, business, church or individual wants to fill one or more boxes, please call the church.”
Collections days are Nov. 18-25 from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday, with extra 5 to 7 p.m. hours on Wednesday and 6-7 p.m. Sunday, also 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25.

Next men’s breakfast Dec. 10 at Apostolic
An ecumenical monthly men’s Christian fellowship breakfast is held from 7 until 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the site rotating between several local churches.
Next breakfast will Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Apostolic Faith Church, 400 W. Davilla St., in Rockdale.
“Purpose is Christian fellowship and all men of the Rockdale area are invited,” said Bill Avrett, spokesman.
Community outreach banquet set Saturday
THORNDALE— Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Thorndale of will host a “Community Outreach Banquet” on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Thorndale Fireman’s Hall, 304 E. Moerbe Street.
The banquet will star t at 6 p. m. and the menu will consist of steak, baked potato, salad, roll, tea and dessert. Proceeds will be used for the new sanctuary which is currently under construction.

Fundraiser for mission trip set here Saturday
A sausage wrap and bake sale fund-raiser will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16 to help with a short-term mission trip to Guatemala.
Luciano Garcia and his family will hold the sale at Manuel Imports, 1406 W. Cameron Ave. in Rockdale, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Garcia needs $1,000 to go on the mission trip to the Central America country from Dec. 29 through Jan. 6.

Women on Missions
Women on Missions of First Baptist Church met Nov. 6 and heard a mission focus program on Sahuarita, Arizona presented by Jane Robinson, Mary Morgan and Dolores Sonntag. Others attending were Gladys Roberts, Laura Gary, Elaine Holliman, Elaine Simpson, Jane Darwin, Barbara Clark and Faye Simpson.
Members were served lemon cake and Arizona pralines. Plans were discussed for the Christmas Children’s Shoe Boxes and honoring members now residing in nursing homes.
