Holiday party, dance set for December 14

Something new for Milam County 4-H is a Holiday Party and Dance for 4-H members and their friends. The first annual holiday event will be conducted Dec. 14 at the New Salem Building on the Rockdale Fairgrounds in Rockdale. The 4-H Council members and officers will be planning and conducting the event with 4-H club managers and leaders providing refreshments.

4-H members can invite friends to attend the 4-H Holiday Party and Dance with them. Youth not enrolled in 4-H must be invited and accompanied by a 4-H member.

Here is the schedule for the Dec. 14 event:

• Kindergarten through fifth graders, 6-8 p.m.

• Sixth graders through 12th graders, 8:30-11 p.m.

Remember to start planning your holiday schedule to include the 4-H Holiday Party and Dance on Dec. 14. It should be lots of fun for 4-Hers and their invited friends. If you are planning on attending please contact the Milam County Extension Office.

CONSUMER FUNDRAISING— If you need ButterBraids for the holiday season, the Milam County 4-H Consumer Project Group is selling the frozen pastries.

The cost is $13 for most of the flavors and $14 for the double chocolate ones. The orders are due to the Milam County Extension Office by 11 a.m. on Nov. 18. The orders will be delivered on Nov. 25.

Contact the Milam County Extension Office to place your orders if you are not contacted by a 4-Her.

MAJOR SHOWS, LIVESTOCK JUDGING—Any 4-Her who is interested in participating in livestock judging contests with Milam County 4-H should contact the office by Nov. 15. We will have an informational meeting shortly after that date to learn more about the contest, schedule practices, as well as organize a group and gauge participation levels for upcoming contests so that entries can be made. Please contact the extension office for more information on this opportunity.

Livestock and judging team entries are due to the Milam County Extension Office on Nov. 15 for Spring Major Livestock Shows in San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston and Austin.

MCJLS DEADLINES—The 2014 Milam County Junior Livestock Show rules and entry form are now available on the Extension website http://milam.agrilife.org/.

Lamb and goat tag-in is 4-6 p.m. Nov. 25 at the Youth Exhibition Building (YEB) in Cameron. Swine and breeding gilts tag-in is 4-6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the YEB. Broiler orders are due on Dec. 9 at the Milam County Extension Office. Price is $1.62 each and must be ordered in groups of 25 per show pen. Checks payable to MCJLS.

Milano FFA junior quiz team advances

Milano High School’s junior FFA quiz team won first place at the District FFA Leadership Contest held in Franklin on Monday, according to sponsor David Westbrook.

The team of Bryce Hughes, Desserie Gann, Kelsey Dees and Madison Westbrook took top honors at the contest. Huges was also high point individual.

The team advanced to the area competion on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Blinn College in Brenham.

“This is the first time we have had any team with a first place finish,” David Westbrook said.

Others Milano FFA teams placing at the event were: Junior Farm Skills (Jaylyn Barcak, Christina Zieg, Taylor Lange), seventh place; Junior FFA Creed, Victoria Gaston, eighth place; Senior FFA Quiz (Dustin McBee, Kirsten Crowe, Tyler Gann, Myka Morehead), ninth place; Senior Farm Skills ( Tyde Taylor, Scott Kornegay, Kain Dodd), 10th place; Radio Broadcast (Fallon Ferguson, Trevor Gann and Junior Gallardo), 12th place; Senior FFA Creed, Junior Gallardo, 12th place.
