Etherington

Funeral services for Ruth Etherington, 92, formerly of Forest Grove, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, in Forest Grove Christian Church and burial will follow in Forest Grove Cemetery. Pastor Lance Walch of Forest Grove Christian Church will officiate.

Mrs. Etherington died Thursday, Nov. 7, in San Marcos.

She was born Aug. 15, 1921, in the Hicks community of Lee County to Elmer and Inez (Luckey) Alford.

She was raised in Forest Grove and attended school at Oak Hill, Tanglewood, Rockdale High School and graduated from Lexington High School.

Mrs. Etherington was a lifelong member of Forest Grove Christian Church.

She married Clarence Etherington and his work with Sedco Oil took them to places such as Argentina, Trinidad, Pakistan and Dubai, as well as many places in Texas, Colorado, Louisiana and Utah.

They retired to Austin where Mrs. Etherington lived until moving to San Marcos in September of this year.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bridge, 42, dancing, camping, painting and country and western music. She also enjoyed hosting and helping at parties.

Mrs. Etherington was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents, Elmer and Inez Alford; two brothers, Bill Alford and M. J. Alford; and two sisters, Louise Holman and Aline Gattis.

Survivors are a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other family.
