Cotton accepts plea bargain, waives any appeals
Death penalty murder trial proceedings came to a quick and final end in a busy few hours last Wednesday afternoon when 21-year-old Brandon Charles Cotton accepted a life-without-parole sentence in the 2011 murder of 50-year-old Sandra Phillips.
Cotton, who immediately began serving his life sentence, also waived his right to an appeal, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey. Full Story
The flying bridge!
For a few minutes anyway. The 102-year-old Worley Bridge over the San Gabriel River on CR 428 got airborne as part of a $1.27-million restoration project last Wednesday. Ellis-McGinnis Construction Co. used a 350-ton crane to move the historic, 34,000-pound bridge off its supports and place it on a north bank field. Full Story

Commissioners interviewing water hopefuls
Milam County commissioners began interviewing 10 candidates for three positions on the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation (POSGCD) District board of directors Monday.
