The flying bridge!
For a few minutes anyway. The 102-year-old Worley Bridge over the San Gabriel River on CR 428 got airborne as part of a $1.27-million restoration project last Wednesday. Ellis-McGinnis Construction Co. used a 350-ton crane to move the historic, 34,000-pound bridge off its supports and place it on a north bank field. The bridge will be renovated, lifted back to its original location, new decking and stringers installed and the historic structure will be reopened to light vehicular traffic. County Road 428 was closed in 2011 for the project, expected to be complete next spring.
