Milam retired teachers to meet here Thursday
Milam County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale, according to secretary Alma Lue Wenzel.
“This will be our Thanksgiving luncheon so bring a covered dish,” Wenzel said. Guest speaker will be from the Texas State Library and speak on the library’s “Talking Book” program.
“ Members are reminded to bring a book or donations for ‘Books for Children.’ Also, if you have something unusual, bring for ‘What is it?’ We will also elect officers for the coming year,” Wenzel said.
RMH Auxiliary yule luncheon tickets on sale
Tickets for the annual Richards Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s Christmas luncheon are now on sale, according to president Jody Manning.
Tickets are $8 each and this year’s menu will include barbecue. Tickets can be purchased at the RMH front desk.
This year’s luncheon will be held on Friday, Dec. 13 at St. John’s United Methodist Church fellowship hall (corner of Hillcrest and Summit) in Rockdale.

Germaine Cares plans to help a local family
Germaine Cares Foundation, named in honor of the late Germaine Dawson, plans to assist one family with Christmas presents and also a free Thanksgiving meal.
TaNisha McKenzie, spokesperson, said the Foundation would like to provide Christmas presents to the children of a family this holiday season and make Christmas a little brighter for that family.
“Also, we would like to provide a Thanksgiving meal for a local family,” she said.

Crown gardeners to hear program on Texas botany
Crown Garden Club will meet Thursday, Nov. 21 at the home of Patricia McKee and hear a program by Williamson County Master Naturalist Sterlin Barton on Ferdinand Lindheimer, German Texan botanist considered the father of Texas botany.
Lindheimer left Germany in 1801 and came to the United States in 1834 as a political refugee. He arrived in New Braunfels in 1844 and spent most of his time collecting plants in the central and southern areas of Texas. He is credited with the discovery of several hundred plant species.
