Reporter Santa Letter deadline is Dec. 6th
Deadline to turn Santa letters in to The Reporter is Dec. 6. Letters need to contain both the first and last names of the child.
They can be dropped off at the office, 221 East Cameron, mailed to PO Box 552 or emailed into email@example.com. Rockdale Elementary School students may use the drop-box near the school office.
Letters will be published in the Dec. 19 edition.
DPS probes hit-and-run crash Friday on US 79
The Department of Public Safety is investigating a hit-and-run incident that triggered a rollover Friday afternoon.
Trooper Jason Adams said an eastbound vehicle driven by Robert Quintanillo, 20, of Dallas rolled after it was struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene.
Moderate damages were reported and Quintanillo was not seriously injured, Adams said.
Adams said the accident was reported at 3:55 p.m. and the location was listed as US 79 southwest of County Road 356 between Gause and the Brazos River.
RDA downtown yule decoration contest set
Rockdale Downtown Association is sponsoring a downtown Christmas decorating contest, according to Chris Dyess, RDA president.
“We are trying to encourage as many businesses downtown to decorate in time for the Dec. 7 Christmas festivities,” Dyess said. Prizes will be awarded, $100 first place, $50 second place and $25 third place. Prizes will be awarded at 6:30 p.m. on December 7, Dyess said.

Annual ‘Tree of Angels’ ceremony set Dec. 5th
The Milam County & District Attorney’s Office will sponsor the annual “Tree of Angels” ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, immediately following the Cameron Christmas Parade, at the Milam County Museum located at 112 West First Street.
The “Tree of Angels” program is celebrated each year across Texas and enables survivors of violent crime and victims’ families to place an angel ornament on a special Christmas tree. Members of the armed services will also be remembered and honored.

Chamber needs booths for Christmas event
Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is looking for vendors for their annual “Christmas in the City” in Downtown Rockdale, according to Chamber secretary Denise Brock.
“We are needing arts and crafts vendors, as well as food booths,” Brock said.

Sixth nativity display set December 6 and 7
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will present its sixth annual nativity display on Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. until noon and from 2 until 8 p.m. at the church, 310 Calhoun Street in Rockdale.
This display has been a popular Christmas season event in Rockdale and features a wide variety of nativities loaned by local families.
Persons wanting to share their nativity to be displayed may drop them off Monday-Friday at Dr. Steve Daniels’ Rockdale Veterinary Clinic, 618 West US 79.

Alcoa Retirees yule meeting set Dec. 12th
Alcoa retirees will gather for their annual Christmas meeting Thursday Dec. 12 at the Alcoa Lake Training Center.
Doug Williams, spokesman, said setup is at 4 p.m. with doors opening at 5 and a meal at 6 p.m. after the meeting.
Christmas Bazaar set Saturday, December 7
The L ad ie s Societ y of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will hold their annual Christmas Ba zaa r beg inning at 9 a. m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in the church’s educational building on San Gabriel Street in Rockdale.
The bazaar will conclude at 1:30 p.m. with the raffle drawing and door prizes. The bazaar will offer baked good, arts and crafts and a silent auction.
The kitchen will have chicken stew, menudo and sandwiches for sale with free coffee.
