BASIC MAYHEM

Happiest of Thanksgivings from all of us!
Kathy Cooke

Happy Thanksgiving! As you can tell, this week’s Reporter came out a day early and is our Thanksgiving issue. There are lots of Thanksgiving greetings from businesses all over Rockdale and Milam County and it’s one of our favorite issues all year.

One common thing I hear all the time from businesses and organizations is how thankful they all are for the local support of our community.

Rockdale’s annual Community Thanksgiving Outreach luncheon was held last Saturday, at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church. They had a great crowd, as usual, and Mike got some great photos from the event on page 3A of this week’s Reporter.

And the fun isn’t stopping anytime soon.

Saturday, December 7th is the 8th annual Buddy Oney Toy Run, sponsored by the Bad to the Bone Riders. It will be held at The Ranch in Rockdale. Registration is at 9 a.m.

Speaking of thankful, those Bad to the Bone Riders do so much to help Milam County and I am very thankful that we have them!

Saturday, December 7th is also the Rockdale Chamber’s “Christmas in the City” in downtown Rockdale.

Please see page 2B for a complete listing of the festivities, which will end with the annual lighted Christmas Parade, starting at 6:30 p.m.

To get the Christmas spirit moving and grooving, Rockdale Downtown Association is sponsoring a downtown Christmas decorating contest, according to Chris Dyess, RDA president.

“We are trying to encourage as many businesses downtown to decorate in time for the Dec. 7 Christmas festivities,” Dyess said.

Prizes will be awarded, $100 first place, $50 second place and $25 third place. Prizes will be awarded at 6:30 p.m. on December 7, Dyess said. For more information, Dyess can be reached at 512-446-6680.

If you or your organization have a need for a vendor booth at the celebration, Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is looking for vendors for their annual “Christmas in the City” in Downtown Rockdale, according to Chamber secretary Denise Brock.

“We are needing arts and crafts vendors, as well as food booths,” Brock said.

For more information on becoming a vendor, call Brock at the Chamber office at 512- 446-2030 or visit the website at www.rockdalechamber.com.

Tisket A Tasket will hold their annual Christmas on the Grounds on December 7, with lots of vendors to help get your Christmas Shopping started. She usually has some great booths and they will be open during the day, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Then the fun continues with The Gray Cottage’s Christmas Open House from 6-9 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and visit and enjoy refreshments.
