Roundup deadline December 4

Brown Santa, Thorndale, Germaine Cares also offer yule cheer

Wednesday, Dec. 4, is the deadline to apply to be served by Christmas Roundup in 2013.

Three other Christmas cheer programs, Brown Santa, Thorndale Cares and Germaine Cares, are also planning to make the holidays brighter for Rockdale-area residents.

ROUNDUP—Applications to be served by Roundup, which brought food and toys to over 1,000 persons last year, are avai lable at The Reporter, Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library, One-Stop Center, Citizens National Bank, Classic Union, Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Rockdale City Hall and local churches.

Monetary donations can be deposited in the Christmas Roundup account at Citizens National Bank or sent to PO Box 509, Rockdale, Texas 76567.

Food and toy donations can be taken to Rockdale Signs at anytime. Other drop off locations for toys and food will be available soon.

SCHEDULE—The Knights of Columbus Hall will be open on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 5- 7 p.m. to accept donations of food and toys.

On Monday, Dec. 16, the KC Hall will open at 9 a. m. for volunteers to help fill boxes for delivery to needy families.

Persons who have designated that they want to pick up their Christmas Roundup boxes will be able to do so from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16.

Delivery date for food and gifts will be Tuesday, Dec. 17, beginning at 9 a.m. Families who elected to pick up their boxes and did not do so on Monday may come to the KC Hall at 9 a.m. on Tuesday to receive their boxes.

Volunteers are needed all days but especially on Tuesday to help with delivery.

BROWN SANTA—Names of Milam residents wanting to be served by the Brown Santa toys for kids drive are being taken at the sheriff’s office in Cameron.

Applicants must bring a Medicaid or WIC card with the child’s name on it, plus a valid Texas ID. Applications can be picked up at the sheriff’s office.

Anyone interested in donating new, unwrapped toys can bring them to the sheriff’s office, the only location for such donations.

Ask for Wynema Adams or Capt. Douglas, 254-697-7033.

A Brown Santa account has been set up for donations at Classic Bank. Monetary donation may be mailed to: Brown Santa/Wynema Adams, 512 N. Jefferson, Suite A, Cameron, TX 76520.

THORNDALE CARES— Non-perishable food, boxed toys and coats are now being collected for Thorndale Cares, the annual Christmas cheer effort in the Thorndale area.

Dec. 13 is the deadline to apply and forms are available at City Hall.

Delivery will be 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec 21. Delivery is inside the city limits only or those being served may pick up their boxes in the Thorndale ISD cafeteria.

Donations may be made at City Hall or Thorndale Meat Market.

At the Thorndale Christmas parade on Dec. 7, Thorndale Masonic Lodge 978 will collect items for Thorndale Cares at its barbecue stand on the south end of Main Street.

GERMAINE CARES— Named in honor of the late Germaine Dawson, this Foundation will assist one family with Christmas presents and also will provide a free Thanksgiving meal.

TaNisha McKenzie, spokesperson, said the Foundation would like to provide Christmas presents to the children of a family this holiday season and make Christmas a little brighter for that family.
