SURPLUS FOOD VISIT—
Cold and a blustery north wind didn’t dent the crowd at Rockdale’s monthly visit to the KC Hall parking lot by the Capital Area Food Bank from Austin. A crowd estimated at 250 braved the weather to receive the free food. The visit is held at 9 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month. There are no eligibility requirements and volunteers are needed. Rockdale Christmas party on tap Dec. 7
Rockdale’s annual Christmas party and parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 7 with a full day of activities.
It all leads up to the night lighted parade through downtown Rockdale at 6:30 p.m.
Activities get under way at 9 a.m. downtown and go until 6 p.m. Many will be at the restored I&GN Depot-Musem, corner of Milam and Main. Full Story

A telephone scam now working in Central Texas attempts to convince their bank is calling and requesting information.

Two charged on meth offenses in unrelated cases during week
Two men were charged with unrelated drug offenses two days apart in Rockdale during the past week.
Police said Robert Chance Baxter, 34, was arrested Saturday in an incident police said involved a suspect “attempting to destroy methamphetimes in a vehicle.”
Lt. J. D. Newlin said Baxter had been bonded out of jail only a few hours previous to the arrest. Full Story
Milam escapes ‘wintry mix’ weekend
Milam County law enforcement was on alert over the weekend as a major winter storm threatened Central Texas but the thermometer stayed just above freezing as cold rain fell almost continuously for three straight days.
Lows over the weekend were 36, 37 and 35 in Rockdale, staying just above the “magic” 32-degree freezing mark and sparing the county an ice storm. Full Story
The Thorndale Police Department has received a new police vehicle to begin replacement of their aging fleet, according to Police Chief Martin Jackson. The City of Allen, Texas donated a 2009 Dodge Charger police car, which was replaced with a new patrol unit. Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey and Deputy Chief Glen Fowler made the donation at no charge. Full Story

• 7:26 p.m. Nov. 20, Rockdale VFD dispatched to 700 block of Cedar for smell of gas, unable to locate.

Oney Toy Run on Dec. 7 will aid CPS, Christmas Roundup
The 8th annual “Buddy Oney” Toy Run, sponsored by The Bad To The Bone Riders of Rockdale, will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 at The Ranch, 415 W. Hwy 79, in Rockdale, according to organizer Charles Starr. Full Story
A milestone in the San Gabriel Bridge construction project on FM 486 was reached last week when traffic was switched from the “old” bridge to the new bridge that’s been constructed over the past year. Traffic will continue on the new bridge while the old bridge is demolished and a “newer than new” bridge is built. Full Story
Whitmore piano students score high at Sacred Music Festival
Piano students of Dixie Whitmore recently played in a Sacred Music Festival held on the campus of Mary Hardin-Baylor University in Belton.

Buckholts Lions collects 900 pounds for annual food drive
The Buckholts Lions Club members were very active during the week of November 17-24.
On November 20, the Club set up a face painting booth at the Buckholts ISD Fall Festival. Thanks to the school for letting the Club set up and thanks to all members who participated in the face painting. Full Story
Lighting ceremony starts off holiday season on Saturday
The first of three community wide Christmas events will be held this weekend in downtown Milano. On Saturday there will be a lighting ceremony held downtown at the Bailey Bank Building. That will get underway at 6 p.m., followed by hay rides ending at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall. Cookies, punch and hot chocolate will also be available at the church. Full Story
