Bank scammers working in area

A telephone scam now working in Central Texas attempts to convince their bank is calling and requesting information.

They’re not. Banks don’t phone their customers or make “robocalls” (automated calls).

The most recent scam is a robocall informing the potential victim they’ve lost their debit card and need to press “1” to reactivate it or “2” to disconnect.

Pressing “1” leads to a request for t he soon- to - be v ic t im’s account number.

Don’t do it.

Hang up and report it to the police or sheriff’s department.
