Fire claims home
Nine units from four volunteer fire departments, including Rockdale, battled this blaze which gutted the Barbara Moore home at 2963 FM 3061 north of San Gabriel at 12:46 p.m. Saturday. RVFD Fire Chief Ward Roddam said the owner was not home. Volunteers from Thorndale, Rockdale, Cameron and Thrall battled the blaze and the Thorndale VFD was called to a rekindle at 4:28 p.m. Full Story
Drugs at PD net additional charges
Two persons being booked at the Rockdale Police Station, on separate incidents three days apart, were charged with having prohibited substances in correctional facilities.
Lt. J. D. Newlin said in both cases the substance was methamphetamine.
Andrew Alan Nipps, 36, of Rockdale was charged Nov. 26 and Marjorie Fedor, 46, of Rockdale, was charged Friday. Full Story
Milam Jail commended by state inspector
The Milam County Jail has passed its most recent inspection with flying colors and received a letter of commendation from the state.
County Judge Dave Barkemeyer received a letter from Brandon Wood, executive director of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards regarding the Nov. 25 inspection by inspector Fred St. Amant. Full Story
Two Missouri residents were taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple after this two-vehicle crash at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of East Cameron (US 79). Billy and Pauline Humphrey, both 71, of Iberia, MO, were in a 2012 Chrysler van (left) which was in collision with a 1997 Ford pickup operated by Denise Brown, 47, of Milano. Police said she was not injured. Full Story

Holiday programs to serve needy
Roundup, Thorndale Cares seeking volunteers for Christmas cheer distributions
Needy families in Rockdale, and throughout Milam County, will get visits from Santa this year thanks to several Christmas cheer programs now underway.
Final day to apply to be served by Roundup, which brightened thelivesofabout1,000Rockdale area residents in 2012, was Wednesday, Dec. 4. Full Story

Well, not actually roll, although that’s what the Cheyenne Mountain dining car did for many years. The under-restoration diner will make its “debut” as a coffee shop of sorts as coffee and desserts will be available inside from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday as part of the day-long annual Christmas party sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
