Phillips seeking east ward seat on council


Phillips Phillips Leroy Phillips is a candidate for the vacant east ward position on the Rockdale City Council.

Early voting begins Monday at Cit y Hal l for the Dec. 21 election. See story page 1A.

Hi s st ate - ment of candidacy follows:

My name is Leroy Phillips and I am running for the vacated seat of Melody Dawson.

I was born in the community of Tracy to the late city councilman Earnest L. Phillips and Ruenell Phillips.

My family moved to Rockdale in 1963.

I graduated from Aycock High School in 1964 and attended Tyler Barber College in Houston and received my license in 1965.

I worked as a barber in the city of Rockdale until 1969 when I was hired at Alcoa.

I retired from Alcoa in 2009 with 40 years and two months of service.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Doris. We have three daughters, Yolanda of Temple, Angele of Round Rock and LaShun of Austin.

I have resided at 414 Oak for the past 35 years.

If I am elected, I will work to the best of my ability for the citizens of the east ward of Rockdale.

Your vote and support on Dec. 21 will be greatly appreciated.
