Vansa seeks new term as Milam County Clerk


Vansa Vansa Barbara Vansa, Milam County Clerk, is seeking another term in that office.

Her statement of candidacy follows:

I have been an employee of the Milam County Clerk’s Of f ice since Sept, 1, 1984, elected county clerk and took office Jan. 1, 2007.

I am bonded and have taken the official oath as required by Law. I annually attend educational seminars to complete 20 hours of instruction, including registry funds, fraudulent court document and fraudulent filings, public information act and the open meetings act as required by the Texas Government Code and Local Government Code.

There are many responsibilities of the county clerk. A few of the responsibilities are being the clerk of the commissioners court, recorder of the official public records; the county election officer who is responsible for county, state and federal elections for Milam County, working closely with the Democratic and Republican Party Chairs, filing financial documents for the county and the cities and school district budgets, receive and issue vital records and other miscellaneous requests.

I have served on the committee for the county sick leave pool and personnel handbook.

During my career I have been involved with the county government advancement in basic office technology from typewriters to computers, networking, scanning, imaging, microfilming, the state-mandated electronic voting system, remote birth system with the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Austin which allows our office to issue short form birth certificates from other Texas counties and implementing the official records on-line for real estate, judgments, liens and miscellaneous records beginning in 1983 with Government Records Services Inc., ACS in Dallas.

My husband, Richard and I have two adult children, Heather and Brandon and two grandsons, Bryson and Gauge.

We are members of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Marak.

The Law requires a candidate to choose a party affiliation and I chose to file in the Democratic Party.

Being elected as a county official I have served all citizens of Milam County for the past 29 years with pride and honesty and hope I will be fortunate enough to remain your Milam County Clerk.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
