Fairfield 12, Rockdale 7
November 22, 2002
Defense was the name of the game in the “Coal Bowl” as Fairfield limited Rockdale to just 66 yards of offense in a 12-7 victory in an area playoff game at Waco ISD Stadium. The Tiger defense—led by linebacker Jacob Garza and defensive end Stryker Sulak—was equal to the task and Fairfield scored just enough to win. The Tigers led 7-0 at halftime on a Jamal Williams 20-yard run. Fairlfield (11-1) scored twice in the third quarter to grab the lead and despite the fact they had three possessions in the fourth quarter (including one with 1:40 left), Rockdale (7-5) could not punch it in for the game-winning score.
