Morehead named All-State spiker

MILANO—Lady Eagle junior outside hitter Myka Morehead has been named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class A All-State volleyball team.

Morehead, who was recently named a District 16A first team selection, led Milano to the regional tournament, where they lost in the semifinals to state semifinalist Lindsay.

The Lady Eagles were 29- 7 for the season and co- district champions.

Morehead led her team in kills with 509 kills on the season (4.6 per set) and also had 281 digs on the year (2.6 per set).

Milano head coach Wendy King said the honor is well deserved.

“Myka is the most dedicated volleyball player I have coached in 20 years,” King said. “She is deserving of any and every award she earns.”

Morehead was a first team all-district selection as a sophomore as well.

She is the daughter of Amamia and the late Luther Morehead.

This is the second year in a row that a Lady Eagle has been named to the all-state squad. Stonie Guthrie, who graduated MHS in May, was named to theteamin2012. Beforethat it had been since 2005 that a Milano volleyball player has been named all-state. That year Rebekah Melton and Lauren Moore, members of the Lady Eagles’ state silver medalist team.
