Rockdale man arrested for protective order violation
Rockdale police made four felony arrests during the week, three of them on out-of-county warrants.
The lone in-county arrest was a violation of protective order with two previous convictions. John D. Johnson, 33, of Rockdale was arrested by Officer Alex Gonzales on Dec. 4 during a traffic stop. Full Story
Roadways slippery with weekend cold front
Milam County law enforcement was on alert again over the weekend as a winter storm iced over parts of Central Texas. Road conditions across the county were a concern as some bridges and overpasses had to be sanded by Texas Department of Transportation crews when temperatures dipped and stayed well below freezing. Fire and accident calls dispatched during the past week from the Rockdale Police Department included the following:
• 1:38 p.m. Dec. 9, Milano VFD responded to a two-vehicle accidents, two miles east of Milano.

No one was hurt in this 10:10 a.m. Thursday morning traffic hazard on US 77 North in front of the Best Western motel. Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department units, along with Rockdale
Police Department officers, responded to the scene where this 18-wheeler had its trailer come loose and block the roadway. The two were hitched back together and the driver continued along his route. Full Story
Rockdale trustees looking to save on ‘refinancing’ bonds
Rockdale school trustees voted unanimously to approve the order to authorize the issuance of Rockale ISD unlimited tax refunding bonds in their December noon lunch and meeting on Tuesday afternoon at the RHS Family and Consumer Science Room. Full Story

Rockdale mayor John King read three proclamations at Monday night’s city council meeting in honor of Rockdale Tiger athletics. King declared the week of Dec. 9-15 as “Rockdale Tiger Athletics Appreciation Week,” as a way to celebrate the Rockdale Tigers football team’s march to the state quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Alcoa shares emissions data, updates at CAPARO meeting
The Community Advisory Panel to Alcoa-Rockdale Operations (CAPARO) received its annual report on Rockdale Operations’ emissions when the community members met with Alcoa in November.
Members also learned that there have been no reportable environmental noncompliance incidents and no recordable injuries year to date. Full Story
Annual Buddy Oney Toy Run to be held Saturday
The 8th annual “Buddy Oney” Toy Run, sponsored by The Bad To The Bone Riders of Rockdale, was moved a week later and will now take place on Saturday, Dec. 14 at The Ranch, 415 W. Hwy 79, in Rockdale, according to organizer Charles Starr. Full Story
New, fully automated water meters for City of Rockdale residents should be installed by the end of March, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf, shown here examining one of the new meters. The first shipment of the meters arrived at city hall last week. Knauf said installation should begin in January and take approximately three months to get installed throughout the city. Full Story
Chief appraiser Moraw to retire this month
CAMERON— Patricia Moraw has retired as Chief Appraiser after more than 31 years with the Milam Appraisal District. She was hired in 1980 to assist in the first county-wide reappraisal.
