Special election Saturday
Denise Holmes and Leroy Phillips are vying for the unexpired term created by the resignation of Melody Dawson in September.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall.
A total of 50 persons took advantage of the early voting period which ended Tuesday.
That’s actually a decent early voting total for an east ward special election. There were 106 total votes cast in the regular east ward election in May.
Only those residing in the east ward can cast votes in the special election.
Easiest way to determine which ward you reside in is to look at your yellow voter registration card, which is good through Dec. 31.
Inside the “city” box on the back will be listed either RKDE ( Rockdale East) or RKDW (Rockdale West).
If it says RKDE, you may vote in this special election. If not, you can’t.
If the box is blank you don’t live in the Rockdale city limits and can’t vote in any city election.
Call City Hall, 512-446-2511, if you need more help in determining in which ward you reside.
PHOTO ID—This is the first city election to be conducted under Texas’ new photo-ID voter law.
Those casting ballots will need to produce a driver’s license or other approved photo ID in order to cast a ballot. Go to www.votetexas. gov and click on “FAQ.”
City Secretary Terry Blanchard said the early voting period went well with voters producing some form of state-approved photo ID.
