Biting allegations on 1-year-old lead to Monday arrest
An investigation into allegations that a one-year-old child was bitten several times led police to make an arrest Monday, according to Sgt. J. D. Newlin.
Newlin said as the result of an investigation by Sgt. Stephen Goodrich, Jerry Wayne Cruz Jr., 26, was charged with injury to a child. Full Story
Scammers stay busy during holiday season
Milam County residents continue to report scam attempts to the sheriff’s department during the holiday season.
Deputies were called to four attempted scams during the past week, including two in the Rockdale area.
Those were reported Monday at a Sierra Drive location and Friday at a Russell Drive residence. Full Story
Two crashes on rural roads
State troopers were called to a pair of accidents on South Milam County rural roads during the past week, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Trooper Joshua Cashan of Falls County was called to a two-vehicle accident at 1:45 p.m. Dec. 9 on 79 east of the Texas 36 intersection in Milano. Full Story

The Milam County Sheriff Department’s Brown Santa program won the Presidential Award in Saturday’s lighted Rockdale Christmas Parade. That award signifies the best float entry in the parade. Delivery day for the annual program to provide toys for children of needy area families is Saturday. Brown Santa activities include summertime golf tourney as a major fund raiser. Full Story

ONEY TOY RUN—
Cold weather didn’t faze about 35 participants, mostly motorcyclists, who came to The Ranch for the eighth annual Buddy Oney Toy Run, Organizer Charles Starr said. The event grossed about $8,000 for two organizations. Christmas Roundup (at left) received $4,000 worth of new toys and Milam County Child Protective Services was presented $2,918. Full Story

MILANO – A beef cattle market outlook for 2014 will be one of the featured presentations at the 2014 Central Texas Cow-Calf clinic scheduled Jan. 3 at the Milano Livestock Exchange.

TISD REWARDED FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY—
Thorndale Independent School District received a $16,940 incentive check from Oncor Energy’s ‘Take A Load Off Program,’ which helps schools save energy and money.
