With the long holiday break coming up, the Rockdale Lady Tigers wanted to get one last run in and a strong second half propelled the Lady Tigers past LaGrange 45-33 Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers, who won 12 games all of last season, improve to 8-2 on the season.

LaGrange is 3-6.

“I think this was a good win for us,” said Rockdale Coach Liz Galloway-McQuitter. “It was significant because of how we bounced back from a disappointing loss to 4A Austin Crockett.

“We shot poorly in that game, but actually played well in other areas. While our shooting percentage is still not where we want it to be, we are playing harder.”

The Lady Tigers shot 30 percent from the floor and missed 19 of 33 free throws.

Velma Mitchell scored 11 of her team-high 15 points in the first half and was 7-of-15 from the free throw line.

Dae Dae Robertson followed with 13 points, while gathering up eight rebounds and seven steals.

Clinging to a 24-22 lead at intermission, by the end of the third quarter and with five different players scoring, Rockdale had constructed a double-digit lead that was maintained for the remainder of the game.
