Six crashes reported on Rockdale streets during past week

It was a busy pre-holiday week for Rockdale police who investigated six roadway crashes within the city limits.

Serious injuries were reported in one, a vehicle-motorcycle accident in front of the Budget Inn in th 700 block of West Cameron (US 79) at 2:02 p.m. Friday.

Police said vehicles involved were a 205 Honda motorcycle, operated by Jonathan Streetman of Rockdale and a 2011 Mercury driven by Carol Johnson of Rockdale.

Streetman was taken to Richards Memorial Hospital by an AMR ambulance crew. The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

A damage estimate was not listed for the car.

CRASHES—A two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Dyer and Murray at 1:42 p.m. Dec. 17.

Police listed drivers as San Juana Castillo-Reyno of Rockdale, in a 2004 Ford LL, and Carlos Cadena, also of Rockdale, in a 1983 Oldsmobile.

Damage estimates were not listed by police.

A minor accident was reported at 6:06 p.m Dec. 17 in the Walmart parking lot.

Drivers were listed as Rebecca Green of Rockdale in a 2012 Nissan, and Mario Gonzales of Rockdale in a 2005 Toyota.

Police said both vehicles sustained minor damages.

Another minor accident in the Walmart parking lot was reported at 2:14 p.m. Saturday.

Police said vehicles involved were a parked a parked pickup and a vehicle driven by Diana Worthen of Springdale, Arkansas.

At 7:10 p.m. Saturday, police were called to 540 West Cameron (US 79) for a report of a vehicle striking a brick staircase leading to the roadway.

Police located the vehicle, a 2002 Dodge pickup, in the parking lot of Aaron’s Furniture and Rentals.

Driver was Judith Slusher of Rockdale according to police who said the truck sustained major damage.

And police were called to a two-vehicle crash at the corner of Mill and Wilcox (FM 487) at 7:53 a.m. Dec. 18.

WARRANTS—Police served seven warrants over the past week, all issued by the City of Rockdale.

Three warrants were served for failure to appear two for speeding and one for each for no liability insurance and driving while license invalid.

CITATIONS—Traffic tickets issued during the week included 27 for speeding, six for expired registration, three for expired MVI sticker and one each for failure to notify upon striking a highway fixture or landscape, failure to yield right of way and violation of open container law.

INCIDENTS—Police investigated the theft of a cellphone Rockdale High School and arrested a juvenile for theft ($50 to $500).

A $100 counterfeit bill was passed a local convenience store during the past week, according to police.

Police also investigated five reports of driving while license suspended and one each of no driver’s license, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and credit card/debit card abuse.

SERVICE CALLS—Officers responded to 107 calls for service during the past week, and 104 calls were answered through the 911 emergency system by police dispatchers.
