Thornton

Funeral services for Elza Bess Tally Thornton were held Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington.

Mrs. Thornton died Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Evening Star Nursing Home in Alvin.

She was born May 12, 1923, in Lexington to Bessie Ellen (Browder) and Milton P. Tally Jr.

Mrs. Thornton was raised in Lexington, later moved to Houston, where she lived 49 years, and she lived the past five years in Alvin.

On Nov. 12, 1944, she married Robert Edward Thornton in Lexington.

Mrs. Thornton worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for many years at Robesco Inc., a family owned electrical engineering company in Houston.

She was a member of First Methodist Church of Bellaire and had been a Girl Scout leader.

Mrs. Thornton enjoyed sewing, reading and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Thornton; a daughter, Dr. Paula T. Beall; her parents; two brothers, Milton Pierce Tally III and Curtis Tally; and a sister, Mary Jo Tally Perry.

Survivors are a daughter, Norma A. Bray and husband Jim of Alvin; two granddaughters, Amy Campbell of Minnesota, Barbara Allen of Alvin; and five great-grandchildren, Aislinn Campbell, Jonathan, Danielle, Milissa and Michelle Allen.
