Chamber members polled on president position for future
‘Can no longer afford’ job vacant 14 months
Rockdale Chamber of Commerce members are in the process of deciding whether they want to keep the position of “president”—vacant for the past 14 months—a mandatory part of their bylaws and constitution.
Members were e-mailed a copy of proposed changes last week and a vote will be taken at the annual Chamber membership meeting Jan. 30. Full Story

2011 scores again get campuses placed on transfer list
The Rockdale ISD must feel like the classic movie “Groundhog Day,” in which residents of a Pennsylvania town live the same day over and over again for no reason.
Once again, soon-to-be threeyear old TEA state test scores have been used to place the high school and junior-high campuses on a list purporting to show “low performing schools.” Full Story
Phillips new councilman
66 turn out for special election in east ward
Leroy Phillips was elected to an east ward seat on Rockdale’s City Council Saturday, out-polling Denise Holmes Wallace 42-24 in a rare December special election.
Turnout was 66, with 49 voting early and 17 persons coming to the polls at City Hall on Saturday.
That compares to 106 who voted in the regular east ward election in May. Full Story
AD hires new chief appraiser
Rockdale resident takes district helm immediately
The Milam Appraisal District (AD) has a new chief appraiser and she’s from Rockdale.
Dyann Daniel White was named the new chief appraiser Monday by a unanimous vote of AD board members after an executive session. Full Story

Closings ahead for Christmas, New Year days
Two sets of holidays are ahead for Rockdale residents.
Virtually everything is shut down for Christmas on Wednesday and for New Year’s Day Jan. 1.
While there were plenty of closings, or early closings Tuesday for Christmas Eve, it will be pretty much business as usual New Year’s Ever, Tuesday Dec. 31. Full Story
