Firefighters make calls during holiday week

Volunteer firefighters throughout South Milam County made numerous calls during the past week.

Milano and Rockdale VFDs responded to a pasture and hay fire Sunday morning on County Road 327.

Milano firefighters were called out first and the Rockdale VFD was summoned for aid.

First call came in, and was toned out, at 11:18 a.m.

A barn was threatened by the blaze.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about four hours.

Other calls for South Milam VFDs during the week:

• 4:02 p.m Dec. 23, report of tree on fire at US 77 and FM 908, turned out to be a controlled burn, Rockdale VFD.

• 5:07 p.m. Dec. 20, report of round hay bale on fire one mile west of Gause, turned out to be a controlled burn, Gause VFD.

• 11:55 a.m. Dec. 24, pasture fire, 4077 County Road 334, Milano VFD.

• 3:14 p.m. Saturday, hay field on fire, 441 County Road 327, Thorndale VFD.

• 3:47 a.m. Saturday, train cab on fire, Western Hills Road west of Rockdale, Rockdale VFD.

• 5:46 p.m. Sunday, controlled burn still burning in windy conditions, 1866 County Road 429, Thorndale VFD.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
