LCRA-Alcoa sale canceled; no death penalty trial
In 2013 it wasn’t what happened in the Rockdale area that made some of the year’s biggest news, it was what didn’t happen.
As 2012 ended, Rockdale’s two biggest stories waiting to be played out were LCRA’s acquisition of land at the former Alcoa Rockdale Operations and the death penalty capital murder trial of Brandon Charles Cotton. Full Story
New AD directors certified by board
CAMERON—Two new directors and three holdovers were certified last week as the Milam Appraisal District (AD) tabulated votes cast this fall by the county’s taxing entities.
Mike Vance of Rockdale and Don Culp of Thorndale are the new directors, according to new Chief Appraiser Dyann White. Full Story

Lights go on for third ‘gateway sign’ at west city limits
Landscaping next step in development district’s project
The lights are on this holiday season at the newest Rockdale gateway sign, located on US 79 at the western city limits.
This is the third gateway sign to go up. The signs are a project of the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD). Full Story
First holiday of New Year set Wednesday
Wednesday is, of course, New Year’s Day with most businesses to be closed, along with city and county government offices.
Among the closings are all of Rockdale’s financial institutions.
City Hall and the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library will be closed and Rockdale’s garbage pickup will be one day late from Wednesday through Saturday. Full Story
