This is the third gateway sign to go up. The signs are a project of the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD).

“We wanted to have it up for Christmas,” Gary Griesbach, MDD president, said. “Through the cooperation and hard work of a number of Rockdale businesses, we were able to do that.”

Griesbach said landscaping on the new sign is still to come and a flagpole is also being erected.

Other signs greet motorists heading into Rockdale from the south on US 77 (at Coffield Regional Airport) and heading into town from the east on US 79 (near the KC Hall).

Griesbach expressed appreciation to Charles Bland of Bland Construction, general contractor.

“He worked with the MDD to have the sign completed by Christmas,” Griesbach said.

He said other businesses who worked on the sign included Rockdale Signs & Photography and Bud’s Electric.

“We appreciate the cooperation of Rockdale General Store for allowing this sign to be placed on their property frontage,” Griesbach said.

“Also thanks to KRXT-FM,” Jody Pelzel, project chair, said. “They also offered use of frontage for sign-related utilities.”
