New AD directors certified by board

CAMERON—Two new directors and three holdovers were certified last week as the Milam Appraisal District (AD) tabulated votes cast this fall by the county’s taxing entities.

Mike Vance of Rockdale and Don Culp of Thorndale are the new directors, according to new Chief Appraiser Dyann White.

They replace outgoing directors Joan Ratliff of Rockdale and Mike Marek of Cameron.

Reappointed to new terms were Tim Arledge of Rockdale, Larry Patterson of Cameron and Travis Yoakum of Milano.

White said the votes have been counted and the new board certified.

Taxing entities are alloted votes based on the size of tax rolls within each district. Smaller entities will commonly combine votes in order to have more of a voice in who is elected.

The largest entities—Milam County and the Rockdale ISD— have enough votes to elect a director without any votes needed from another entity.

White said the duties of AD directors include presiding over the appraisal office, selecting the chief appraiser, appointing members of the appraisal review board, adopting an annual budget, contracting for an annual audit and private service firms, designating a depository and appointing an agricultural advisory board.

Directors do not appraise property, hear tax protests or make decisions regarding appraisal records, White said.
