The 8-3 Bulldogs held off Lago Vista 50-45 Monday after whipping Somerville 58-44 and Buckholts 70-33.

In his third game back after breaking his nose and missing six games, senior guard Riley Schaefer is slowly returning to form and bagged a season-high 18 points in the victory over Lago Vista.

Eric Hinistroza chipped in with 14 points and Americo Vazquez 13.

After jumping out to a 42-26 lead after three quarters, Thorndale had to hold on as Lago Vista (10-7) mounted a comeback.

The Bulldogs got out early against against Somerville (6-10) and maintained a safe distance.

Hinistroza canned 14 points and Schaefer 13 as nine Bulldog scores.

Vazquez collected 22 points in the win over Buckholts (2-5), followed by Jordan Hafley’s 14 and Lorenzo Llana’s 10.

Thorndale led 41-19 at halftime.

Milano

In their final warm up game before league play starts, the Milano Eagles fell to Giddings 55-39 on Tuesday night at Geneva Paceley Gym.

Milano was plagued with several first half turnovers and were outsized under the basket.

The Eagles were able to cut the lead to 10 with a little over four minutes left in the third quarter, but just could not close the gap any further.

Jordan Millar led Milano with 18 points, followed by David Jentsch with 14.

Nick Bonorden added four points and Treyton Steinbecker banked a shot for three.

The Eagles will open up District 25A play on Friday when they travel to face Snook. They will host Somerville on Tuesday.
