Shelby Evans Shelby Evans Evans named to TSWA All-State spike team

Shelby Evans led Rockdale to the state playoffs for the first time since 2006 and was rewarded by being named to the Texas Sports Writers Association all-state volleyball team.

Evans, a 6-foot senior middle blocker, was selected for the third team in Class 3A.

Evans racked up 319 kills, 290 digs and 176 blocks for the 20-18 Lady Tigers, who fell to Lorena in the first round of the playoffs.

She’s the first all-state performer the Lady Tigers have produced since Crystal Callas was named honorable mention in 2009.

Milano booster club sets next meeting Feb. 3

MILANO—The next Milano Athletic Booster Club meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 in the elementary school cafeteria, according to club president Becky Ferrara.

Thegroupwillcleanand organize the baseball concession stand following the meeting.

There will be a number of current officers leaving the board at the end of this year with kids graduating and so forth.

They encourage anyone who might be interested in serving in future years to join now in preparation for “ passing the torch” when it’s time.

Also, the annual alumni softball tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 22.

Youth baseball signups continue for two Sats.

Sign ups for the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association have begun and will continue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 25 and Feb. 1 at Walmart.

Registration is $65. Sign ups will not be accepted the day of tryouts.

Aggie moms tee up for scholarship golf tourney

The Milam County Aggie Moms Club will host its second annual scholarship golf tournament Saturday, March 22, at the Rockdale Country Club.

The 4-man scramble tournament wi l l have two tee times; 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will include carts and lunch.

Entry fee is $60 per player. There will be contests, silent auction and more.

The tournament is open to all golfers. Milam County Aggie Moms encourage all Aggies to come out and support future Aggies.

RGSL next sign up set for Jan. 25 at complex

Rockdale Girls Softball League will have their next sign up on January 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the RGSL Softball Complex.

Alumni baseball game first pitch on Feb. 15

The 6th Annual Tiger Baseball Alumni Scrimmage is back.

This year’s scrimmage will be held on February 15 and will follow the usual format.

There will be two alumni teams and the 2014 vars ity team. Any ex-baseball player of Rockdale High School is invited to play and each team will play two games.

There will also be a home run derby this year.

There will be a concession stand for food and drinks starting with the first game at 11 a.m.

Each scrimmage will be conducted like a typical scrimmage. There will be umpires and all other workers required to run off a game or scrimmage.

Therefore, all friends and family planning on attending the scrimmage should still expect to pay a small fee at the game to get in ($3 adults, $2 students).

Alumni coming to play in the scrimmage will not pay to get in, but will need to pay $15 for their “Game Day” shirt.

Checks can be made payable to Rockdale ISD or Rockdale Athletic Department, PO Box 632, Rockdale, TX 76567. Payment must be paid at the time of registration.

You can also hand deliver payment to Denise Betchan at the Athletic Office. Please sign up before Feb. 1.
