POSGCD seeking director applicants
MILANO—Deadline to apply to fill a vacancy on the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District Board of Directors is 5 p.m. Friday.
The unexpired term is that of Milam County at large representative. Carrol Glaser, who recently submitted his resignation. The term extends through December 2015.
You may include letters of support and or petitions with signatures from Milam County citizens that support you for inclusion on the board if you so choose, but this is not a requirement.
Commissioners will choose a member from among the applicants.
Police, RVFD events combine on Feb. 15
Tickets, priced at $15 each, are on sale at The Rockdale Police Department for a “new look” Officer of the Year banquet Feb. 15 at the KC Hall.
In 2014, Officer of the Year will be combined with the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual awards banquet during which Firefighter of the Year, and other recognitions, will be presented.
Those are usually part of the RVFD’s Christmas banquet which was not held in December, 2013.
“This event is pre-sale only,” Lt. J. D. Newlin said.
“Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a meal catered by Sho’ Nuff Soul Food. The awards program will begin about 7 with a dance at 8,” Newlin said.
Hinistroza benefit slated for Saturday
There will be a BBQ benefit for the late Paul Hinistroza from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Thorndale Fireman’s Hall, according to Eric Hinistroza, spokesperson.
Proceeds from the benefit will go towards offsetting any expenses Paul and wife Lupe Hinistroza incurred during his battle with cancer.

Council on Aging sets visit for Feb. 13
The Area Council on Aging will visit the Rockdale Multi-Service (Senior Citizen Center) Feb. 13 to assists with questions on Medicare, Extra Help, Medicaid, Long Term Care Planning or Social Security.

Milano council hears more on store
MILANO—Milano city council members heard more information from Sal Maredia on his plans to build a truck stop near the western intersection of US 79/190 and TX 36 Monday at the civic center and are considering granting Maredia a tax abatement.
Maredia told the council he plans to include a convenience store, fast food restaurant, RV parking and a motel on the property.
The council presented Maredia with three possible options for city tax abatements and Pct. 3 commissioner John Fisher gave information on the Milam County Tax Abatement board.
