RDA slates reception for Dyess

The Rockdale Downtown Association (RDA) will honor Chris Dyess for his service to the organization with a reception from 10 a.m. to 12-noon Thursday at the Bit of History building, 114 East Cameron (US 79).

Dyess has served as president of the RDA and has also been active within the entire Rockdale community.

Dyess Insurance has been home to the RDA for the past seven years.

Coffee and cake will be served.

Blood drive set Sunday in Thorndale

The Scott & White Bloodmobile will visit the campus of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Thorndale from 8 a.m. to 12-noon Sunday.

It’s the first event of the 2014 Blood Drive Challenge with a quilt of blood donor T-shirts to be awarded at year’s end.

Every individual who donates a pint of blood in 2014’s six drives will be entered in a drawing.

Donors also receive a T-shirt, coupon for one free pound of chocolate chip cookie dough with purchase of a Papa Murphy’s pizza and a chance to win a $50 gift card to Academy Sports.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
