MVFD annual chili supper, auctions set for Saturday

I f you have a taste for chili and some great live music, then be sure to come out to the annual Milano Volunteer Fire Department chili supper, set for Saturday, Feb. 8 at the group’s new station/ shelter, located on US 79. Serving will start at 4 p.m. until sold out and is $7 per bowl for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

Live music will be provided from 5-7 p.m. by Lynn Martin and friends and a silent auction will be going on at this time as well. At 7 p.m. there will be a live auction, followed by the group’s annual drawing fundraiser.

Firemen are selling tickets now for $5 each or six for $25. Prizes include: Henry Golden Boy 22 caliber mag., two Taurus Public Defender .45-410, Henry Golden Boy 22 caliber long rifle, Remington 700 .270, Marlin 336w 30-30, Remington 870 shotgun, H&R Pardner shotgun, Mossberg 817 17 MHR, $100 Academy gift card. All prizes received in gift cards. Winners pay sales tax and need not be present to win.

The Milano Evening Lions Club will host its annual pancake supper on Saturday, March 1 at the Milano Civic Center.

Serving will take place from 5-7 p.m., with the evening also including a silent auction and live music from Lynn Martin and friends. Proceeds from the event will help fund the club’s scholarship program.

The annual alumni softball tournament hosted by the Milano Athletic Booster Club is scheduled for Saturday, March 22. I will get you more information on this as the time gets closer.

What an amazing turn out for the first ever Arms Wide Open in Love (AWOL) community feeding on Saturday. There was an estimated 230 meals served/delivered to members of the community. A huge thank you to all the amazing volunteers who showed up to help. The next one is set for March 1. Watch this space for more details or call Rebecca Telg at 979- 406-2173 and leave a message.

A baked goods silent auction sponsored by the Milano High School National Honor Society will be held during the Milano-Mumford boys basketball game on Friday, Feb. 7. Anyone who would like to donate items to the fundraiser may bring it to the school by 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Frei Ministries which is helping with the humanitarian effort in the Philippines after the massive typhoon that hit there late last year.
