17 cases heard in 20th District Court
CAMERON—Seventeen cases were disposed of in 20th District Court of Milam County in the last two weeks of January, according to Prosecutors Bill Torrey and John Paschall who listed the case dispositions as follows:
• Jamal Byron Williams, 23, Cameron, pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence, six-year prison term. Full Story
Twenty indicted Thursday in grand jurors’ session
Twenty persons were indicted Thursday in the January session of the Milam County Grand Jury, and there was one no-bill, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey who listed them as follows: • Edward Derosia, 55, Cameron, driving while intoxicated, third or more offense. • Wayne Anthony Bynaum, 41, Cameron, theft. Rockdale volunteer firefighters answered one of their more unique calls at 10:16 a.m. Jan. 29 at the corner of Cameron Avenue (US 79) and Allday to a report of a fire in a catering truck. Full Story
‘Evading’ charged after stop
A 64-year-old Rockdale man was arrested Monday and charged with evading arrest or detention with vehicle after a vehicle and foot chase involving two Rockdale policemen.
Edwin Williams remains in custody in lieu of $1,000 bond. Full Story
Stolen car chase ends in Taylor
Begins with attempted traffic stop on US 79 west of Rockdale
A chase between a Milam County Deputy Sheriff and a suspect in what turned out to be a stolen vehicle ended in the woods near the Taylor airport before dawn Wednesday when the suspect fled on foot.
Chief Deputy Chris White said Deputy Sam Ferguson attempted to pull over a vehicle just west of Rockdale on US 79 when the driver sped off. Full Story
MCT sets annual Gala and meeting
CAMERON—Milam Community Theater will hold its annual members only Gala and General Membership Meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Williams Event Center in Cameron.
The Gala includes a silent auction that features works from local artists, a fine dinner and a rather impromptu production from MCT’s merry band of actors. Full Story

Baylor 20th women’s brunch set for Feb. 15
WACO—For twenty years the Central Texas Baylor Women have held a brunch honoring the Distinguished Baylor Woman selected from this area. From Cameron over to Lampasas, Gatesville and Hamilton, down to Rockdale and Georgetown, the women who support Baylor University, whether graduates or fans, have met yearly also to raise money for the Central Texas Endowed Scholarship. Valentine banquet set for Feb. 15 at Family Life Center
Youth of the Gause Baptist Church are planning a Valentine banquet fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the church Family Life Center. Tickets will be $15 per person and can be purchased in advance at Coats Grocery or at the door the evening of the event. Full Story
Rockdale resident Charlie Watson turned 80 on Jan. 24, but instead of getting a bunch of gifts he decided to give them. Charlie and wife Pat took 375 pound of food to the Rockdale Christian Services food pantry last week, along with $130 in cash. All gifts Charlie received as presents, all requested of course. The Watsons often host parties and ask guests to bring items for the pantry. Full Story
Advocates needed for ombudsman program
The Central Texas Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is seeking caring individuals who will be able to visit one of the nursing facilities in Rockdale once a week for one to two hours. Full Story
Communities in Concert Band welcomes area musicians to join
After a short break from holiday performances, the Communities in Concert Band has resumed regular rehearsals at 6:30 p.m. Sundays in Peace Lutheran Church fellowship hall.
Band members come from area communities— representing a wide variety of ages—to play a broad spectrum of band music and perform at civic, social and other events. Full Story
Booster club’s seventh annual Father-Daughter Dance Feb. 21
Rockdale Athletic Booster Club will hold the seventh annual Father-Daughter Dance benefiting its scholarship fund from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at Rockdale KC Hall.
Tickets are $15 per couple in advance and will be $20 per couple at the doors (additional daughters $5 each). All ages are welcome. Full Story
