Holcombe scholarship Mardi Gras party March 1

Holcombe Holcombe CAMERON—Mark your calendar for March 1 for the second annual Mardi Gras bash to raise funds for the Christine Holcombe Memorial Scholarship Fund, event spokesperson Deborah Kostroun announced.

The fund was set up in honor of the late Christine “Chris” Holcombe, an extension agent in Milam County for over 30 years and a volunteer in many area civic organizations who passed away last year from breast cancer.

The “Mardi Gras” bash will be held Saturday, March 1 at Simon George Hall, 401 S. Karnes, in Cameron.

The event, which will start at 6 p.m., will include a Cajun food dinner, auctions and games for the kids. Adult tickets are $10 and children under 18 are $5. Tickets may be purchased at the Cameron Chamber of Commerce, The Rockdale Reporter and Rodenbeck Farm & Ranch in Thorndale.

After last year’s event seven scholarships totaling $15,000 were awarded to Milam County residents who are currently in college.

If you would like to donate items to the event, please email cholcombememorial@gmail.com or drop them off at Ideal Poultry in Cameron or The Rockdale Reporter.

More information can also be found on the group’s Facebook page, Christine Holcombe Memorial Scholarship Fund.
