Stolen car chase ends in Taylor

Begins with attempted traffic stop on US 79 west of Rockdale

A chase between a Milam County Deputy Sheriff and a suspect in what turned out to be a stolen vehicle ended in the woods near the Taylor airport before dawn Wednesday when the suspect fled on foot.

Chief Deputy Chris White said Deputy Sam Ferguson attempted to pull over a vehicle just west of Rockdale on US 79 when the driver sped off.

White said chase continued through Thorndale and into Williamson County as Milam units were assisted by Thorndale and Taylor police along with units from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department.

The chase continued for several minutes on US 79 and other roads, according to White.

White said the driver abandoned the vehicle on a county road north of the Taylor Airport and fled into heavy woods.

“We searched and called in a DPS helicopter but were unable to locate the suspect,” White said.

“The vehicle was recovered and turned out to have been reported stolen in Bastrop County,” White said.

“We appreciate the help we received from Thorndale and Taylor police and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department,” White said.
