Rockdale Lions set 14th Pancake Supper

Rockdale Noon Lions Club members will hold their 14th annual Mardi Gras Pancake and Bacon Supper on Fat Tuesday, March 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park, according to Terri Sandoval, president.

Adult tickets will are $8, children age 6-12 are $5 and children age 5 and under eat free. Tickets will be available at the door.

Entertainment will include the Rockdale High School Jazz Band and the Communities in Concert Band.

“This fund-raiser benefits the school children of Rockdale with an eyeglasses program,” Sandoval said.

Next Lions board meeting will be held Wednesday, March 12 at noon at Gatti’s Pizza.

Genealogy society to elect slate Tuesday

Milam County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Citizens National Bank conference room in Rockdale.

Bad weather forced cancellation of the January meeting, so the election of officers will be on Tuesday’s agenda. Members and potential members must pay dues by this meeting to be able to vote.

Thorndale Jamboree ahead Monday night

THORNDALE—VFW Post 4009 and Auxiliary will host the Thorndale Country & Gospel Music Jamboree on Monday, Feb. 24 at the VFW Hall on FM 486 N. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for those who want to come early for food from the kitchen. Music will start at 7 p.m. with the House Band and guest performers.

The Jamboree is held each fourth Monday except in December.

The kitchen will serve sausage wraps, chicken salad sandwiches, homemade pies and drinks. “Please come enjoy an evening of good music,” said Marjorie Menzel, publicist.

Milano Jamboree coming up Saturday

MILANO—The monthly Milano Junction Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Civic Center featuring country and gospel music.

Admission is free and refreshments will be provided. Listeners and musicians are invited. “Musicians wishing to perform should notify us when they arrive,” said Tena Galbreath, spokesperson.

Chili event slated by Thorndale VFW

THORNDALE—Thorndale VFW Post and Auxiliary will serve a chili meal on Sunday, March 2 at the post home.

Proceeds will go to a new roof and repairs for the VFW Hall. “Many families and community members rent and use the hall for parties, reunions and meetings,” said Marjorie Menzel, spokesperson.

The meal will include chili or baked potatoes. Serving will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Desserts will be available for a free will offering.

Salty Cemetery meeting March 3

SALTY—The Salty Cemetery Association will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 3 in the Salty Church annex.

Museum’s member party set Saturday

CAMERON—The Milam County Museum is currently holding its annual membership drive, according to museum director Charles King. The drive will conclude with a “Membership Party at the Bistro” on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The event will run from 8 p.m. to midnight at Mercantile Bistro, 106 S. Houston in Cameron, and feature The FAB 5 (formerly The Chevelles).

The event is for members only, but memberships can be purchased at the door or at the museum, 112 W. 1st Street. Basic membership is $50.

Alcoa Retirees Club to meet March 13

First meeting of 2014 for the Alcoa Retirees Club will be held Thursday, March 13 at the Alcoa Lake Training Center, according to Doug Williams, president.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. with a meal at 6 p.m. Members with surnames A through L will provide desserts.

Officers will be elected during the meeting and there will be no gifts or door prizes, Williams said.

Milano Lions set pancake supper

MILANO—The Milano Evening Lions Club will hold its annual pancake supper on Saturday, March 1 at the Milano Civic Center, serving from 5 to 7 p.m. The evening will also include a silent auction and live music from Lynn Martin and friends.

Proceeds help fund the club’s scholarships.

Sunshine quilters to meet on Feb. 27

Sunshine ‘n Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church fellowship hall.

Milano seniors plan Florida Boys show

MILANO—Milano Senior Cit- izens will hold a gospel singing variety show by the new Florida Boys at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14 in the Civic Center.

Rummage sale set by Cameron A&SL

CAMERON—The fifth annual Cameron Arts & Service League rummage sale will be held from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, March 1 at the First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, W. 3rd Street, Cameron.

Adult and children’s clothing in many sizes, furniture, household and kitchen items, toys, books, and more will be available. Proceeds are used for local service and scholarships in the community.
