David, Pelzel named first team All-State
First Tiger teammates to be named first-team since 1977
James David and Josh Pelzel just recently signed letters-of-intent together, now they have shared another unique experience.
David and Pelzel were named to the first team of the Texas Sportswriters Association Class 3A All-State team.
The duo become the first Rockdale teammates to be named first-team All-State in the same year since Leigh Shepard and Kerry Locklin in 1977. Full Story

My childhood friends and I lost another one of our fathers Sunday with the passing of Ted Randall.
As I’ve stated before, if your father passed the mustard with us, we called him by his first name.

Thorndale chalks up first playoff victory since 2010
Thorndale-Somerville was the classic matchup of height versus mite.
While Somerville had the definite advantage in the paint, Thorndale made it a perimeter game.
The Bulldogs harassed the Yeguas into 38 turnovers to fuel a decisive 74-31 victory in front of a packed house at Rockdale’s Tiger Gymnasium in a Class A, Region IV bi-district playoff game. Full Story

MILANO—According to Milano Superintendent Robbie Westbrook, Milano would like to hire from within when selecting a new football coach. “There is no timeline in place, but Westbrook expect to have it done rather quickly, hopefully by spring break,” Westbrook said. Full Story
Eagles miss playoffs for first time since ‘11
Somerville slips by Milano in play-in game
SNOOK—It came down to shots falling, and unfortunately for Milano, not enough of them did.
The Eagles’ season came to an end on Friday night in a 44-42 “play in” game against Somerville, ending Milano’s season.
It is the first time in four years that the Eagles (7-19) have not made the post-season. Full Story
Lady Tigers drop season openers
The Rockdale Lady Tigers opened the 2014 season with a pair of losses, falling to Robinson 10-1 and Rogers 3-1 Tuesday night.
Against Rogers, the Lady Tigers strung together three hits in the sixth inning to produce their lone run. Full Story
Aggie moms tee up for scholarship golf
The Milam County Aggie Moms Club will host its second annual scholarship golf tournament Saturday, March 22, at the Rockdale Country Club.
The 4-man scramble tournament will have two tee times; 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will include carts and lunch. Full Story
