Shredder to visit Rockdale March 7

A commercial cross shredder will be back in Rockdale on Friday, March 7, according to Chamber secretary Denise Brock, in a community service project sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club.

The shredder will be at the Chamber building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Individuals and businesses are welcome to use the shredder, with it free for individuals and 16-cents per pound or less.

Those interested are asked to contact the Chamber, 512-446-2030, to let them know you will be there March 7.

Science-Art Night part of school week

Rockdale Junior-High Science and Art Night, part of Texas Public School Week, is set for 6 to 7:15 p.m. March 6 on the campus, according to Tanya Mynar, eighth-grade teacher.

Students and family members are invited to view and vote on art projects in various categories, along with several handson science experiments, she said.

MISD trustees set to mull contracts

MILANO—School board members at Milano ISD will discuss administrative contracts at their regular meeting on Thursday.

Principal and director contracts are on the district’s February agenda each year.

Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. in the high school library.

RVFD fund raiser ahead April 5th

The annual Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department fund raiser will be held April 5 at the KC Hall, according to spokesman Mike Korenek.

Korenek said tickets to the annual event which has an $11,000 gift card as first prize, will be first sold to those who purchased them last year.

Milano council will talk about animals

MILANO—Plans for an animal ordinance is one of the items up for discussion at the regular meeting of the Milano City Council on Monday night.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the town’s civic center, 120 West Avenue E.

Another agenda item is a presentation from Sal Maredia, who has spoken to the council several times in recent months about his plans to build a new truck stop in the city.

MDD directors set Thursday meeting

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Kara Clore, MDD manager.

Agenda items include scheduling a workshop with the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

The two entities have pledged to meet and attempt to present a unified proposal for administration of hotel-motel tax funds to the city council.

Milam Democrats to meet March 6th

CAMERON—The Milam County Democratic Party will hold an executive committee meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6 at the Hollis Lewis Law Office, 202 West Sixth.

Agenda includes discussion of the primary and general elections and planning for the county convention, March 22, party chair Richard Stone said. For more information, contact Stone at 512-760-5748.

Rockdale ISD okays personnel changes

Rockdale ISD school trustees, meeting last Tuesday in regular session, extended the contract of Burleson-Milam Special Services Co-Op Director Angie Brashear by one year, making the pact a two-year contract.

Trustees also accepted the resignation of Betty Alford, juni0r-high cafeteria manager.

Gause family’s home lost in trailer fire

GAUSE—Fire departments from Gause and Milano were toned out just before 11 a.m. Tuesday to a mobile home fire at 306 CR 352 in Gause.

The Kim Lee home was deemed a total loss. No one was home at the time of the fire.
