Two RHS Big Blue soloists earn trip to state contest

HUTTO—Two Rockdale High School musicians have advanced to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest after receiving Division I (superior) ratings on their respective solos at the Music Region 26 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Hutto High School on Saturday, according to RISD director of bands Adrain A. Acevedo.

Geritt Davenport, a sophomore, earned a Division I rating on his Class 1 trumpet solo “Concerto Solo,” earning a trip to state.

Senior Autumn Davenport earned a Division 1 rating on her Class 1 French Horn Solo “Mozart Concerto No. 2,” also advancing to state.

“Our students brought home four gold medals and three silver medals this year and we have 2 students advancing to the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May,” Acevedo said. “We are very proud of our students for representing Rockdale so well.”

Other RHS musicians also earning accolades on Saturday were:

• Brian Blanchard, Division 1 (Superior) rating on a Class 2 Clarinet Solo “Theme and Variations.”

• Abbi Moreland, Division 1 rating on a Class 1 Clarinet Solo “Sonata No. 5.”

• Emily Wagner, Division 1 rating on a Class 1 Clarinet Solo “Sonata in C Minor.”

• Sabrina Vargas, Division

1 rating on a Class 2 Alto Saxophone Solo “Honor and Arms.”

• Jake Land, Division 1 rating on a Class 2 Alto Saxophone Solo “Honor and Arms.”

• Jessie Sorenson, Division 2 (Excellent) rating on a Class 3 Flute Solo “Erin’s Song.”

• Leena Robbins, Division 2 rating on a Class 3 Flute Solo “Minuet in G.”

• Ryann Morgan, Division 2 rating on a Class 1 Oboe Solo “Sonata.”

• Ashton Betchan, Division 2 rating on a Class 1 Clarinet Solo “Sonata in C Minor.”

• Melanie Ibarra, Division 2 rating on a Class 1 Clarinet Solo “Suite in Bb.”

• Lupe Rivera, Division 2 rating on a Class 3 Bass Clarinet Solo “ In The Garden.”

• Lily Schweitzer, Division 2 rating on a Class 1 Alto Saxophone Solo “Adagio and Allegro.”

• Brett Brockenbush, Division 2 rating on a Class 2 Trombone Solo “Arioso and Caprice.”

• Brett Brockenbush, Derek Contreras, Autumn Davenport, Geritt Davenport and Brad Young, Division 2 (Excellent) rating on a Class 1 Brass Quintet “Trumpet Voluntary.”

• Katy Salazar, Division 3 (Good) rating on a Class 2 Flute Solo “Air and Dance.”

• Natalie Wagner, Division 3 rating on a Class 1 Flute Solo “La Flute de Pan.”
