EEA cultural art winners announced

Food preservation workshops set March 19 in Rockdale

Milam County has three Extension Education Clubs that provide educational and social activities for the membership. Recently, Susan Larson of the New Salem EEA Club was recognized as the 2013 Outstanding Member of the Year. She received a plaque for her leadership, volunteer hours and community service contributions to the Milam County EEA.

Members conducted a Cultural Arts Contest at their February meeting in Milano. The entries from the county contest will be entered at the district contest on April 8 in Belton.

Winners were: Carolyn Taylor, afghan; Minnie Pesl, quilting; Patricia Jerman, fiber arts; Barbara Walker, recycled items; Susan Larson, hand stitchery; Doyce Larson, garments and accessories.

FOOD PRESERVATION SKILLS—In the last few years, more and more people are trying their hand at food preservation. It is a great way to preserve produce from your garden, but you must follow recommended guidelines to reduce foodborne illness risks. You want to enjoy quality products throughout the year.

On March 19 you have an opportunity to get an update on food preservation methods as well as learn new techniques so you can enjoy your garden produce all year long “Can Now, Eat Later” workshop will help the seasoned canners as well as the first timers. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the New Salem
