Oil thieves slick in Walmart theft
It was a rare light week for Rockdale police but not for some enterprising shoplifters at Super Walmart.
“They managed to load up a shopping card with 25 five-quart bottles of motor oil and push it out of the store,” Lt. J. D. Newlin said.

Rear-end collisions in the 500 to 700 blocks of West Cameron (US 79) have become common on Friday afternoons producing monumental (for Rockdale) traffic backups. Cameron officer injured, arrest made
A Cameron policeman was injured and a 37-year-old Cameron man was arrested after an incident Friday.
Ofc. Luis Alejo was treated at Little River Hospital Cameron after an incident involving a man claiming to be a law enforcement officer. Full Story
One injured in accident
A 25-year-old Brackenridge resident was treated at Richards Memorial Hospital after an 8:12 a.m. Friday rollover near San Gabriel.
Trooper J. C. Brooks listed the driver as Jordan Escalera. Damage was termed “moderate.” Full Story

THEIR ‘DAY OFF’—
When you’re a volunteer firefighter there’s really no such thing. The Rockdale VFD answered three fire calls on Sunday. This is how it started. At 8:02 a.m. volunteers were called to 715 North FM 908 and extinguished a burning deck. At 12:39 p.m. the RVFD was summoned to a wooded area at the end of Brazos Street for an out-of-control burn.
