Friday filing deadline for city, school ballots

If there are going to be any contested city, school or hospital board races in Rockdale’s May 10 elections— or indeed if there will be any elections that day in Rockdale—more candidates will have to come forth by Friday.

That’s the deadline to sign up. While there are contested races in Thorndale, there are none yet in Rockdale or Milano as the deadline approaches.

ROCKDALE—West Ward City Councilman Doug Calame is seeking another term in 2014 and the term of east ward councilmen Leroy Phillips also expires this year.

In the Rockdale ISD, Lin Perry, Place 6 school trustee, and Place 7 member Kent Bowermon are seeking new terms.

There were no new filings for the Rockdale Hospital District board of directors where president Carl Hudson and members Terry Browning and Dennis Brooks have filed for new terms and Tom Loth is seeking the position vacated by Mike Vance.

Entities may cancel unopposed elections.

THORNDALE—Both city and school races are now contested in Thorndale.

Incumbents Sam Pickett, George Galbreath and Gerald Niemtschk, along with Allen Hejl, are seeking three terms on the Thorndale City Council.

The TISD school board race is now contested with incumbent Dean Betak, Scotty Schaefer, Heath Cargill and Henry Laywell in what is now a four-candidate race for two seats.

MILANO—Jerry Hall, incumbent Milano City Council member and Mayor Billy Barnett are currently unopposed for new terms.

On the MISD School Board trustees Edward Westbrook and Jay Willingham have each filed for re-election.
