Relays open track season

Field wide open in both boys and girls disivions

At last year’s Rockdale Relays, Dae Dae Davis-Robertson finished a pedestrian second in the 300-meter hurdles and didn’t even compete in the 100-meter hurdles.

Å few weeks later, Robertson had smashed the school record in the 300s twice and claimed the district championship in both events.

Perhaps this year’s Relays could be more of a proper coming out party for the sophomore star who earned a trip to state in the 300s as a freshman last year.

At the Leopard Relays in LaGrange last week, Robertson sprinted to victory in both events.

The 56th Rockdale Relays will feature nine schools, including Academy, Caldwell, Cameron, Giddings, Waco LaVega, Lexington, Navasota, Taylor and Rockdale.

LaGrange and Waco LaVega broke Cameron’s three-year reign in the girls division that saw the top six teams finish within 14 points of each other.

Using a particularly strong showing from their weight people, the Lady Tigers turned in one of their strongest finishes in years, third.

LaGrange skipped the Relays this year and Waco LaVega may be tied up as its basketball team is playing for state this weekend in Austin.
