First KC Lenten Fish Fry slated for Friday

It’s Lent and Knights of Columbus Council 7014 is again hosting a fish fry at the KC Hall each Friday of Lent except Good Friday.

First one is this Friday, March 8. Hours are 5:30 to 7 p.m. and dessert is included.

No injuries reported in South Milam crashes

No injuries were reported in a pair of “pre-ice” vehicle crashes in South Milam County, according to DPS troopers.

Trooper J. C. Adams said a vehicle operated by Daniel Moerbe, 18, of Taylor sustained moderate damage in a rollover at 6:28 a.m. Thursday on US 79 near CR 335.

Trooper Ernest Delbosque said a vehicle operated by Brianna Lamb, 18, of Rockdale hit a deer at 4:50 p.m. Feb. 16 on FM 487 near Sharp.

Milano trustees extend administrator contracts

MILANO—Trustees for Milano ISD extended contracts to administrators Thursday.

Contracts for secondary principal Brad Jones, elementary principal Ruth Davenport, director of student services Courtney Todd, technology director Kevin Terry and curriculum Tashia Terry.

Board members also approved the process to select and hire an architect for future MISD projects.

A public meeting is set for 7 p.m. April 3 in the high school cafetorium to discuss district facilities.

Milano council tosses animal ordinance

MILANO—Milano city council members unanimously took a 57-page animal ordinance they were considering, and had been for several months, off the table at their regular meeting on Monday night at the town’s civic center.

City officials note that the ordinance was “too large to condense it in any way that would make it work for our city.”

Until further notice, the city will work under the animal ordinance of Milam County Sheriff’s Department and the state.

‘Hope Night’ March 29 at Patterson Center

Place of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center will host its third annual Hope Night at 6 p.m. March 29 in the Patterson Civic Center.

The western-themed event includes a beef carving station with fixings, live and silent auctions, prize drawing and country western music.

‘Deferred’ workshop Friday in Cameron

All Saints Episcopal Church in Cameron will host a workshop on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Aurora Alvarado, spokesperson, said the 2012 act enables certain persons who came to the U.S. as children may qualify for renewable two-year periods leading to work authorization.

Aging Council to aid seniors on March 13th

An Area Council on Aging representative will be at the Rockdale Multi-Service Center March 13 to assist with questions on Medicare, Medicaid and other programs.
