Delays, crashes in winter’s third ice event
Maybe it wasn’t a full fledged ice storm but it had to qualify as an “ice event.”
Rockdale awoke to a glaze of ice Tuesday morning as yet another winter storm moved through Central Texas.

Fugitive draws 10-year prison term
CAMERON—A 29-yearold Tanglewood man, arrested last March after a multi-county search and a scuffle with Milam County Deputy Sheriff John Mendoza, drew a 10-year prison term last week in 20th District Court. Full Story
Milam residents warned of credit card number scam
Law enforcement agencies throughout the county, including the sheriff’s department, Rockdale Police Department and Department of Public Safety are warning the public about a new scam designed to trick credit card holders into revealing the three-digit security number of the backs of their cards. And in one sense it was. The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department has five new members after a day of training Saturday at the fire station. Here, Thomas Betchan and Reed Davidson extinguish an auto blaze as part of the training. Three scam attempts probed
It was “scam week” in Milam County (see separate story this page) with deputies called to three scam attempts in several areas of the county.
First call was 4:07 p. m. last Wednesday and sent deputies to an FM 2269 address.
At 7:11 p.m. that evening, another scam report seny deputies to Holdiness Lane in Milano. Full Story

Vansa, Muegge re-elected by Demo Primary voters
There were four unopposed candidates on Tuesday’s Democratic Party ballot and two of them have already been assured of new terms.
They are County Clerk Barbara Vansa, who drew 379 votes, and Pct. 4 County Commissioner Jeff Muegge, who polled 109.
Neither has a Republican opponent in the November general election. Full Story

Building permits total $28,456 for February
Building permits for the City of Rockdale totaled $28,456 for the month of February, according to numbers released last week by city hall. That is up in comparison to January where they were $18,900 and December $10,700 in city building permits were issued. Full Story

Workshop on food preservation March 19

TMS rabies clinic
THORNDALE—Thorndale Middle School will sponsor its annual rabies clinic 2-5 p.m. March 22 at the Thorndale park pavilion.
Dr. Arlon Graef DVM and his staff from Graef Veterinary Hospital in Taylor will be on hand to administer rabies shots and other shots for dogs and cats. Full Story
