Pro-Am team roping set Sunday at Fair Park

The Milam County Cowboy Church will be having their annual Pro-Am Team Roping on Sunday, March 23 at the Fair Park arena in Rockdale, according to spokesperson Daniel Garrison. Church will begin at 9 a.m. at the arena with David Key as the guest speaker.

Key is originally from Caldwell and was the College National Finals Rodeo Team Roping Champion in 1988. He joined the PRCA in 1989 and has competed at the National Final Rodeo 9 times. He has won the George Strait Team Roping Classic, Rodeo Houston and many other prestigious rodeos across the country.

Following the church service there will be a Pro-Am Roping in which local amateurs will have the chance to rope with the Pros. Winners will receive saddles, buckles, breast collars and lots of cash, Garrison said.

An open roping will take place after the Pro-Am. In years past there have been multiple World Champions and NFR Finalist win this roping. If you want a chance to watch the best ropers in the world compete you need to be at this roping, Garrison added.

The day will close out with a #11 slide roping with a #8 Incentive. Average winners will receive buckles and cash.

There will be a concession stand open all day serving hamburgers and a cake auction as well. Proceeds will go towards summer camp scholarships benefiting local youth.
