‘Family night’ at Kay recalled by past patron

Dear editor,

At one time, the Kay Theater had what was called family night. I think it was on a Wednesday.

About 12 or 14 of us would get together and make up a couple of families.

We would scrape up two bucks, one for each family and go to the movies.

Mrs. Arrington never questioned, although I suspect she knew hardly any of us were related.

Mrs Arrington was the ticket taker. Her daughter would fetch candy and popcorn for you.

Mr. Arrington ran the projector. I remember they all wore fairly thick glasses.

There was a time when I cleaned that theater some mornings in the summer.

Long after I no longer worked there, Mrs. Arrington would tell me to keep my money and go on in.

They were good people.
