Things are rockin’ at the Rock house

CHAMBER CHAT
Janice King
Chamber of Commerce Board Chair

Tejas is just around the corner and we are excited to do our part. The Tejas committee has done a wonderful job putting together a spectacular program for Tejas again this year.

The Chamber will have the Visitor’s Information Center open on Saturday with information available for our Tejas visitors. During Tejas on Saturday, our Scholarship Committee will be sponsoring a raffle at the Depot with proceeds going towards our scholarship fund.

Preparations for the annual Chamber Banquet on March 27 are in full swing. Everyone is busy doing their part to make this our best banquet ever. We have invited Jim Reed back this year to be our keynote speaker. His speech will be titled ‘Next Level Communities— Engagement for Excellence.”

If you were at the Banquet last year, you will remember the riveting speech that inspired us all to pull together as a community. If you were not there last year, you will not want to miss the speech this dynamic individual prepared for this year.

The banquet has different levels of sponsorship for our businesses and organizations. Gold sponsored tables for six people are $200. Silver sponsored tables are $150. If you don’t have six people, join with another business to sponsor a table. We also have individual tickets available at $20.

Please contact the Chamber at 512-446-2030 for the level of sponsorship you would like. We only have a couple of Gold and Silver tables left.

Wehavehadafloodof applications submitted for the awards that are presented every year at the banquet. It is invigorating to see the involvement of the community as we look to recognize outstanding businesses, organizations and individuals. We are adding a new award this year of Outstanding High School Seniors. The teachers and administration from the school will be making their recommendations for the seniors they feel have made a significant difference this school year.

The Rockdale Rocks at the Alcoa cutoff on US 79 are being moved to Wolf Park. With the placement of the beautiful new Gateway Monument Signs by the MDD, TXDot says the Rocks have to go. They will be an excellent addition to Wolf Park. Tuesday, March 18 will be the first meeting of the MDD and the Chamber to collaborate on the Proposal to go to the city for the Administration of HOT Funds. We look forward to partnering with the MDD in this endeavor to work for our community.

After the city council meeting earlier this month, there is some question as to the legality of the MDD administering the HOT funds. We will be discussing each of our separate proposals in an effort to come up with one proposal that will be both legal and the best for our community. The Chamber and the MDD are committed to do what is best for Rockdale.

The Chamber cont inues to grow. We are pleased to announce Rockdale Residence & Rehab submitted their application for membership. We welcome all business to apply for membership. Let the Chamber work for you. If you are a new or existing business, you can find the application and rates on the web at www.rockdalechamber.com or by calling our office.

Get out and enjoy the festivities at Tejas this weekend. See you there.
